Dorothy L. English

Dorothy L. English, 94, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012 in Lawrence, Kansas. She was born on December 4, 1917 at her rural home near Lyndon, Kansas, the daughter of William and Minnie Hart Schmitendorf.
Dorothy had lived in Emporia for a brief time, but had been a life-long resident of Lyndon until moving to Lawrence in 2011 to be closer to her children.
Dorothy earned her teaching certificate from the Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia. She then taught in several one-room schools in Osage County, had worked as an operator for the telephone company in Lyndon and was a teller at the Lyndon State Bank. She had also handled the bookkeeping for the family business for many years.
On February 22, 1941, Dorothy was married to Paul English in Columbus, KS.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Paul on December 22, 2005; her parents, William and Minnie Schmitendorf; two sisters, Edith Coons and Evelyn Cooper; and two brothers, Kenneth and George Schmitendorf.
Dorothy is survived by her two children, John English of Lawrence and Peggy Runyan and husband Mark of Overland Park; three grandchildren, Megan English and husband Mark Partin of Olathe, Adam Runyan and wife Marie of Newport Beach, CA. and Kristin Runyan of Olathe; and one sister, Nina Schmitendorf of Shawnee.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Monday, November 26 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. No services are planned. Private family inurnment will be at the Lyndon Cemetery at a later date.
