Dorothy L. English, 94, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012 in Lawrence. She was born on December 4, 1917 on the family farm near Lyndon, the daughter of William and Minnie Hart Schmitendorf.
Dorothy had lived in Emporia for a brief time, but had been a life-long resident of Lyndon until moving to Lawrence in 2011 to be closer to her children. She earned a teaching certificate from the Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia. She taught in several one-room schools in Osage County, had worked as an operator for the telephone company in Lyndon and was a teller at the Lyndon State Bank. She had also handled the bookkeeping for the family business for many years.
On February 22, 1941 Dorothy was married to Paul English in Columbus, KS.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Paul on December 22, 2005, her parents, William and Minnie Schmitendorf, two sisters, Edith Coons and Evelyn Cooper; and two brothers, Kenneth and George Schmitendorf.
A family visitation will be held from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Monday, November 26, at the Feltner Funeral Home in Lyndon. No services are planned. Private family inurnment will be at the Lyndon Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS. 66451.
