Steven Mark Sturgeon 1954 - 2012 Tonganoxie
Steven Mark Sturgeon, 58, Tonganoxie, KS, died November 12, 2012 at his home after a three-year battle with cancer.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday November 16, 2012 at the Tonganoxie Christian Church. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie.
Steve was born March 8, 1954 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Donald L. and Rowena Maddux Sturgeon. He attended Reno grade school and then Tonganoxie elementary school. Steve graduated from Tonganoxie High School in 1972. He attended the University of Kansas and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Personnel Administration in 1977.
He married Tracy Tranbarger in 1976 in Sumner, Iowa. She survives of the home.
Steve worked for Carnation Company and Carter-Wallace Laboratories before beginning his own company, Air Specialists, Inc. in 1981. Both Steve and Tracy have worked at Air Specialists, a wholesale distributor for the RV industry, since that time. Steve enjoyed talking to his customers throughout the United States and Canada. He considered all of them friends and had become very close to many of them.
In 2000, Steve built and opened Country Hills, a manufactured home community in Tonganoxie.
Steve enjoyed traveling and took many cruises and overseas excursions. He had also become an avid woodworker, building coffee tables, cedar chests, DVD cabinets and wall units. He loved spending time in his shop on projects and just puttering around.
Steve is survived by his wife, Tracy, of the home; daughters, Katherine Murray, husband Eric, and children, Macie and Owen, of Gardner, KS, Emily Sturgeon Cox, of Tonganoxie, and Kimberly Sturgeon, fianceĢe, Jason Spencer and son, Jack, of Lawrence, KS. Other survivors include a brother, Rod and Linda Sturgeon, of Tonganoxie; sisters, Karen and Steve Stoll, Topeka, KS and Sue Sturgeon, Tonganoxie; father-in-law, James and Jan Tranbarger, Sumner, IA; brother-in-law, Bob and Jennie Tranbarger, Sumner, IA and sister- in-law, Leslie Leppla, Cambridge, OH.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Rowena Sturgeon, grandparents, Benton and Opal Mattux and Shelby and Hazel Sturgeon, and uncles, Jack Sturgeon and Donald Maddux and mother-in-law, Elise Tranbarger.
