Sister Georgeanne Desch 1920 - 2012 Leavenworth
LEAVENWORTH, KS... The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth mourn the loss of Sister Georgeanne Desch, (formerly S. George Anne) 92, who passed away peacefully on Monday, November 12, 2012, at Ross Hall, Mother House, Leavenworth, Kansas.
Florence Desch was born on November 2, 1920 in Topeka, KS, one of six children of George and Anna Marie Stadler Desch. She graduated from Sacred Heart Grade School and Topeka Catholic High School, Topeka, KS. She entered the religious community of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth on September 4, 1939 and, as Sister George Anne, made her profession of vows on March 5, 1941.
Sister Georgeanne worked in elementary schools for 41 years, and was administrator of parochial elementary schools in KS, MO, and MT for 32 years. She received a B.S. in Education and an M.S. in Elementary School Administration from Saint Mary College, Leavenworth, KS. She was the Local Coordinator of the Mother House from 1982- 1989. In 1990, following a sabbatical program, Sister Georgeanne was employed at St. Vincent Healthcare, Billings, MT, in Senior Services as the Coordinator of the Foster- Grandparent program. In 1996 she volunteered at the Martin de Porres Clinic in Topeka, KS, where she was the receptionist. She retired to Ross Hall April 29, 2007.
In the SCL community, she was preceded in death by her sister, S. Ruth Anne Desch, her cousins, S. Cecilia Marie Desch, S. Rose Marie Desch, and S. Frances Cecilia Domme.
Survivors include a sister, Rose Marie Desch Robarge, Kansas City, MO; a brother George Desch, Topeka, KS; nieces, nephews, many friends, and her SCL Community.
A vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14, in Ross Chapel of the Sisters of Charity Mother House in Leavenworth where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Ross Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery on the Mother House grounds. Davis Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Retirement Fund, 4200 S 4th ST, Leavenworth, KS 66048.
