Gerald “Link” Hughes 1928 - 2012 Perry
A Celebration of Life service for Gerald “Link” Hughes, 83, Perry, KS, will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Mustard Seed Church, 700 Wakarusa Drive in Lawrence, KS. He died on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at his home.
He was a member of the Mustard Seed Church and the Alpha Course at the Mustard Seed. He was also a member of the 9th Street River City AA Group and Bricklayers Union for 30 plus years.
Link was born on November 23, 1928 in Livermore, IA, the son of Lloyd Russell and Izola Olive (Collins) Hughes.
He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
He graduated from Washburn University.
He was an Entrepreneur of a Brick and Stone Mason business.
He was married to Marilyn “Sue” Rentfro on May 28, 1988 in Lawrence, KS. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include one daughter, Sheryl Moore, and husband, Scott, Lawrence; two sons, Terry Hughes, and wife, Robin, Ft. Scott, KS, Bob Hughes, Lawrence; five stepchildren, Darren Smock, Robert Smock, Matthew Loudon, Rebecca Matthews, Robin Larson; seven grandchildren, Danylle Hallahan, Rachael Nicole DeBoy, Jarid Moore, Lori Jo Moore, Hannah Moore, Audrey Hughes, Tye Hughes; two sisters, Betty McKenzie, and husband, Fred, Sioux Rapids, IA, Jenny Lynn Fredrickson, and husband, Larry, MS; one brother-in-law, Don Tomlinson, TX; 18 step-grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Donna Tomlinson.
There will be a visitation where the family will greet friends one hour before the service at the church.
The family suggests memorials in his name to Grace Hospice or 9th Street River City AA Group and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
