Edwin “Ed” D. Goebel O’Fallon, Missouri

Edwin “Ed” D. Goebel

Goebel, Edwin D. “Ed”, of O’Fallon, Missouri, died on Monday, May 7, 2012 at the age of 88. Loving husband of Beverly Goebel NEE: Carlson; beloved son of the late William and Myrtle Goebel: devoted father of Jeff (Cindy) Goebel and Kurt (Summer) Goebel; cherished grandfather of Hallie, Andrew, Shannon, Jackson and Kyle. He is preceded in death by his sister, Wilma LeClair.
Ed was a graduate of Moline, IL high school where he received the Citizenship medal. He fought for our nation in WW II in the European theater and considered himself a devoted and loyal patriot. Ed later attended Augustana College, received his Master’s Degree from the University of Iowa and a PhD from the University of Kansas.
Longtime resident of the Lawrence, Kansas and Leawood, Kansas areas, Ed volunteered for over twenty years as the Head Scorekeeper for the Kansas University Basketball program and was a deacon in the Plymouth Congregational Church. Professionally, Ed served as the Senior State Geologist for the state of Kansas, as Technical Director of the United States Federal Power Commission, and taught at the University of Missouri-Kansas City where he retired as Professor Emeritus. He was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
Services: A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday May 14, 2012 at the Colona Cemetery in Glenwood, IL. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
