Bruce Alan Chambers

Bruce Alan Chambers, age 57, passed away April 25, 2012, in Ketchikan, Alaska, surrounded by family and friends. He passed away after a long courageous battle with leukemia.
Bruce was born November 26, 1954 in Ottawa, Kansas. In his early years Bruce excelled at numerous sports for Baldwin High School in Baldwin, Kansas. He was later recruited in football by Fort Scott Community College and went on to play for New Mexico State University. When back in Kansas, Bruce worked for Loyd Builders and J.E. Dunn Construction as a general contractor.
In the early eighties, Bruce went to Alaska to work at the Green Lake Dam in Sitka. Later he worked at Prudhoe Bay and on many heavy construction jobs around the state including construction of the Swan Lake Dam in Ketchikan. Bruce enjoyed fishing and loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was a gifted storyteller who loved to enthrall an audience.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; daughter, Jennifer Shapiro and husband, Noah, of Scotch Plain, New Jersey; sons, Joshua Rose and wife, Ivy, of Ketchikan, Casey Chambers and Lisa of Gardner, Kansas; grandchildren Madison, Sawyer, Sophie, Sadie, Sydnie; his mother, Charlotte Chambers of Baldwin, Kansas; stepmother, Rita Chambers of Alva, Oklahoma; sister, Rhonda Moore and husband, Danny, of Baldwin, Kansas; brothers, Bob Chambers and wife, Cheryl, of Derby, Kansas and Rick Chambers of Reno, Nevada.
He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Chambers and brother Ron Chambers.
A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 14, 2012, at First United Methodist Church, Baldwin, Kansas. A visitation will be immediately following the service.
