Colleen Lois Amess 1927 - 2012 Lawrence
Colleen Lois Amess, 85, of Lawrence, Kansas, passed away April 21, 2012 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Colleen was born on April 5, 1927, in Griffin, Georgia, to Nell Stevens Clark and Charles Lewis Clark. She graduated from High School in Chapman, Kansas. She met and married Kenneth L. Amess on March 22, 1947. After Kenneth served in the Army, he joined the Air Force. They traveled many places while he was serving his country, living in England for three years. They also traveled throughout the United States, during his tour in the military. When Kenneth retired from the Air Force in 1965, they moved to Lawrence, Kansas, where they lived until 2011. Colleen was a housewife, but also worked in Lawrence, at Duckwalls for 10 years, until she retired.
In January 2011, Colleen and Kenneth moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to be close to their niece and her husband, Jim and Carol Wicksted. Colleen loved animals and especially Buttons, her last cat. Buttons also moved to Oklahoma, to live with her in the assisted living apartment. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth, three nieces, great nieces, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, and dear friends. In remembrance of Colleen, donations can be made to the American Heart Association, Oklahoma Affiliate, P.O. She will be laid to rest in Abilene, Kansas.
