Emma Leah LaGesse

Emma Leah LaGesse, age 98, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at the St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She was born April 1, 1913, in Garden City, Kansas, the daughter of Hugh and Pluma Tremain Hawk. A lifetime resident of Garden City, Emma Leah had been the Co-Owner of Dons Service in Garden City for many years. She later worked as the secretary and treasurer for the Acra Plant in Garden City.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City, Kansas, was a member of the High School National Honor Society and served as an assistant to Senator Nancy Kassebaum. Emma Leah was the first Silver-Haired Legislator in Finney County and from 1980-1984 she served as the State Director for AARP.
On July 3, 1937, she married Don P. LaGesse in Garden City, Kansas. He died February 16, 1962, in Garden City, Kansas.
Survivors include: one son, John H. LaGesse of Lawrence, Kansas; two granddaughters, Jenny LaGesse of Houston, Texas and Amy LaGesse of Phoenix, Arizona; a son-in-law, Chris Hamblin of Phoenix, Arizona and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Hawk of Garden City, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a son, Don Ray LaGesse, a daughter-in-law, Diane LaGesse and a brother, John Hawk.
Burial will be held at 3:00pm on Friday, March 30, 2012 in the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas.
Memorial Services will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, March 31, 2012 in the Garden Valley Retirement Village Chapel in Garden City, Kansas.
There will be no calling times.
Memorials may be given to the American Red Cross in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City.
