Ronald Charles Reed

Ronald Charles “Ron” Reed, 73, Oskaloosa, died Thursday, March 8, 2012, at his home after a long battle with multiple myeloma. Ron was born February 6, 1939, in Douglas County, KS., the son of Woodrow Wilson and Pearl Marie Belles Reed. A 1956 graduate of Overbrook High School, he worked at Hallmark Co. in Lawrence, retiring in 1996 after 38 years of service. He also farmed in the Oskaloosa for over 50 years. He was a member of the Oskaloosa United Methodist Church and was a longtime Boy Scout leader in Oskaloosa. He was also longtime 4-H leader for the Jolly Juniors 4-H club in Oskaloosa. He was married to Nancy Jane Means on June 7, 1959, at Oskaloosa; she survives at the home. He is also survived by one son, Charles (Anna) Reed, Lawrence, one daughter, Ronda (Greg) Schuler, Oskaloosa, one brother, Emmitt (Gwen) Reed, Lawrence, one sister, Shirley Brown, Topeka, and four grandsons, Daniel A. Schuler, Aaron Kevin Reed, Ronald “Chase” Reed, and Isaac Albert Reed. He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Woodrow Reed.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday at the Oskaloosa United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, Sunday at the Barnett Family Funeral Home, 1220 Walnut (Hwy 59) in Oskaloosa, where Mr. Reed will lie in state after 12:00 Noon, Sunday.
