Joseph “Joe” Saylor Stauffer 1922 - 2012 Lecompton
Joseph “Joe” Saylor Stauffer, 89, of Lecompton, died Monday, June 11, 2012 at the Hickory Pointe Care Center in Oskaloosa. He was born December 20, 1922 at Kansas City, MO., the son of Walter Brown and Ibba Jane Saylor Stauffer. He was a 1940 graduate of Lecompton Rural High School and he attended York College, York, NE.. A retired Civil Service employee for 34 years, he served as an Inspection Supervisor at the Air Force Supply Depot in Topeka for 17 years and then as a supervising Requisitions Officer for the Postal Department for 17 years. He was a member of the Lecompton Masonic Lodge, the Lecompton Historical Society, and the Lecompton United Methodist Church, where he served as Trustee and as a Lay Delegate to the conference. He also served as Scout Master and as a Lecompton City Councilman. He was married to Ruth Lillian King on January 30, 1944 at Topeka, she survives at the home. He is also survived by two sons, Ron (Wendy) Stauffer, Lawrence, Dennis (Mary) Stauffer, Lawrence, two daughters, Linda Stauffer, Humboldt, IA., Debra (the late Paul) Fuston, Topeka, eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and three honorary great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Lecompton United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Lecompton United Methodist Church, or to Jefferson County Friends of Hospice or to the Hickory Pointe Resident’s Fund in care of Barnett Family Funeral Home, P.O.
