Robert F. Lamborn

Robert F. Lamborn, 93, of Leavenworth, Kansas, passed away May 29th, 2012 at Cushing Memorial Hospital.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, June 2nd, 2012 at Belden Larkin Funeral Home with Minister Calvin Fields officiating.
Visitation will be Friday, June 1st, 2012 from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family will be present from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
Entombment with Military Honors will be at Mount Muncie Cemetery following the funeral service.
Robert was born March 9th, 1919, in Leavenworth, Kansas, the son of Howard M. and Alice (Holman) Lamborn.
He married Madeline Brockman on December 29th, 1945 in Kansas City, Kansas. She preceded him in death on April 2nd, 1998.
Robert graduated from Lansing Rural High School and attended Kansas State University for one year. He then entered the United States Army Air Corps and served from 1942 until 1945. He returned home to Leavenworth and worked on the family farm. He then re-entered the military, served until 1952, and was honorably discharged with the rank of staff sergeant. He then entered the Federal Bureau of Prisons and was chosen by the U.S. State Department to move to Berlin, Germany where he served as an officer at Spandau Prison from 1955 until 1960. After his tour of duty in Germany, he returned to Leavenworth and worked at the Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary as a correctional officer and counselor until his retirement.
Robert enjoyed farming
and ranching during his retirement years and pursued his passion for golf. Reading WWII history was also enjoyable to him. Robert was a child of The Depression. He understood hard work and striving to be the best.
He is survived by four sons: Robert D. and his wife Barbara of Lansing, Kansas; William C. of Tucson, Arizona; Douglas L. and his wife Jean of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Richard J. and his wife Lori of McLouth, Kansas. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, one great grandchild; two sisters: Nancy Marks of Sun City West, Arizona; Alice Sloan of Hiawatha, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by four brothers: Howard, Horace, Edwin, and James Lamborn.
Pallbearers will be Seth, Luke, William, Nathan, Mark, and Spencer Lamborn. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lance Lamborn, Audrey Lamborn and Eve Lamborn Newman.
Memorials in his name may be directed to Leavenworth Public Library in care of the funeral home.
