Theresa B. Garrett Wilson 1906 - 2012 Lawrence
Theresa B. Garrett Wilson passed away at the age of 105 years at The Windsor of Lawrence, Lawrence, Kansas on January 23, 2012. She was born on April 11, 1906 in Laclede County, Missouri, the eldest daughter of Ollie M. Cavan and Richard Shelby Garrett. Her siblings were Clyde and Harvey Garrett and Veda Garrett Glen, all of whom preceded her in death.
The Garrett Family moved by railroad to a farm in Rayville, Missouri, in 1908 with all of their household goods, farm equipment and livestock. She attended Rayville grade and high school where she excelled in reading and geography, of which she had a lifelong passion. Theresa could cite all of the U.S. states and their capitals. She also enjoyed cooking and sewing.
Theresa and Howard Wilson of Kansas City, Kansas were married in 1958 and he preceded her in death in 1971. They lived in Kansas City, Missouri, until they moved to a farm in Breckenridge, Missouri when she retired in 1968. In 1976 she relocated to Lawrence, Kansas.
Theresa worked at many jobs during her long life: Remington Arms at Lake City, Mo., Sears, Nelly Don, Central Surety Insurance, Commercial Union Insurance and others.
Theresa was a devoted mother and expressed love for her children. She leaves three children: Loretta M. McGaugh Evans (Robert), Everett W. McGaugh (Arlyne) and Sylvia D. McGaugh Mooney (Charles); seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Grandchildren: Chris Mooney (Marsha), KCMO, Ted Mooney (Kim), Lee’s Summit, Mo., Holly Mooney Chancey (Mike), Commerce City, CO, April Mooney Logeman (Scott), Suwanee, GA, Wendi Mooney Setter (Mike), Longmont, CO, Tara McGaugh, Lawrence, KS and Karla McGaugh Vialle (Gene), Louisburg, KS.
Great-Grandchildren: Izaak and Eli Workman of Lawrence, KS; Jack, Lewis and Rosie Setter of Longmont, CO; Brigham and Kylie Mooney and Tyler Pursley of Lee’s Summit, MO; Nathan Mooney of Blue Springs, MO; Davin Mooney of Kansas City, MO; Kristin Mooney of Holden, MO; Joshua Bennett of Woden, TX; Anthony Bennett of Bellevue, WA; Tressie Weide of Commerce City, CO; Chelsi Logeman-Tullos of Tifton, GA; Ellis Logeman of Atlanta; and Brandi Logeman-Cooper of Shawnee, KS.
Great-Great-Grandchildren: Brandon and Caitlyn Mooney; A. J. and Desiree Bennett; and Ella Grace Sauer born December 1, 2011.
Pall Bearers: Davin, Nathan, Chris and Ted Mooney; Ronnie, Brandon and Ryan White and Randy Garrett.
A visitation is scheduled for January 25, 2012 from 2 to 4 PM at Warren McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, and the funeral service will be at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, at 2 PM on January 27, 2012 with prior visitation at 1 PM. Burial will be at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, we suggest donations to: Meals on Wheels of Lawrence, Kansas; Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen (LINK) or the charity of your choice.
All relatives and friends are invited to join us for a buffet at the Ventana Restaurant, 117 West Broadway, Excelsior Springs, Missouri after the service and burial.
