Willa Floy Oswalt

Willa Oswalt, 81, of Davenport passed away, Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Bickford Cottage, Davenport. Private family services will be held. The Runge Mortuary is assisting with final arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.TheRungeMortuary.com
Willa was born February 6, 1930 in Hutchinson, Kansas, the daughter of Alma Stewart and Jesse Oswalt. She graduated from Hutchinson High School and attended Hutchinson Junior College.
She was a photo-journalist for 30 years working at newspapers in Hutchinson, KS; Clarksburg, WV; Oceanside, CA; Burlington, IA; Davenport, IA; Moline, IL; and Longboat Key, FL. Her freelance work was published nationally and internationally. She later worked 11 years for the Clerk of the Circuit Court as manager of minutes and records for the Palm Beach County Board of county commissioners.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Sigma Delta Chi journalism fraternity, was awarded a Rotary Club Scholarship and was selected as a Sasakawa Fellow for a Friendship Force ambassador exchange to Germany.
She is survived by her son, Mike Romkey, of Bettendorf, IA; daughter Robbin Voice of Davenport, IA; son Kurt Romkey of St. Charles, MO; daughter Melissa Boisen of Lawrence, KS; daughter, Melinda Alexander of College Park, GA; and eight grandchildren.
Her three brothers, Stewart, Kermit and Gale Oswalt, preceded her in death.
