Alberta ‘Louise’ Gilbert

A Celebration of Life Service for Alberta “Louise” Gilbert, 97, McLouth, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at McLouth United Methodist Church. A graveside committal service will precede services at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Mrs. Gilbert died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, at her home in McLouth.
She was born March 5, 1914, in McLouth, the daughter of Walter Stephen and Alberta Mary Stout Bradford. She was a 1931 graduate of McLouth High School and attended Kansas University.
Mrs. Gilbert taught third and fourth grades in the McLouth schools, retiring in 1974. She also served as the district clerk and as superintendent secretary for McLouth public schools. She was a member of the McLouth United Methodist Church, the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, the American Legion Auxiliary 393 and the AllSew club in McLouth.
She married William Harold Gilbert. He preceded her in death Feb. 14, 1965.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Means, and a brother, William “Bill” Bradford.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Helen Gilbert McConnell and husband Winder, McLouth, and Nancy Louise Gilbert Moring and husband Steve, Oskaloosa; and three granddaughters, Sarah Thomas, Karen Mary Louise McConnell and Kerry Jeanne-Michelle McConnell.
Friends may call after 9 a.m. Friday at the Barnett Family Funeral Home, 1220 Walnut (U.S. Highway 59) in Oskaloosa, where the family will meet friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.
