Elizabeth 'Betty' A. Cushing 1924 - 2012 Lawrence
Funeral services for Elizabeth A. “Betty” Cushing, 88, Lawrence, KS, will be held 12 p.m., Saturday, February 4, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 6, 2012, at Downs Cemetery in Downs, KS. She died Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at the Arbor at Brandon Woods at Alvamar in Lawrence.
Betty was born on January 7, 1924, in Winfield, KS, the daughter of Edwin Daniel Boone Pile and Vera June Ewers Pile. .
She was a resident of Lawrence since 1972, after moving here with her husband from Downs, KS.
Betty was a 1945 graduate of Kansas University with a B.S. in Business. While she was at KU, she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and Mortar Board.
In Lawrence, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Chapter GQ of the PEO Sisterhood, the 20th Century Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, the KU Alumni Association and she served as a volunteer for Audio Reader from 1976-2004.
She was a homemaker.
She married C. Ned Cushing on June 27, 1945, in Winfield, KS. He preceded her in death February 7, 2010. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2005.
Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth A. and her husband, Brian Conner, Salina, KS; one son, William C. and his wife, Mary Cushing, Downs, KS; four grandsons, David Conner, Christopher Cushing, Seth Cushing, and Joel Cushing.
The family will receive friends following the funeral service at the church on Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to First Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund or to the Grace Hospice and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
