Florence Edith Sarlls 1924 - 2012 Lawrence
Funeral services for Florence Edith (Garvin) Sarlls, 88, Lawrence, will be held at 2:00 p.m., December 27, 2012 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence. She died on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Medicalodges Eudora.
Florence was born on April 26, 1924 in McDonald County, MO the daughter of Marc and Bernice (Hogland) Garvin.
She married Lester Leon Sarlls on January 13, 1942 in Coy, MO. He preceded her in death May 15, 2000 after 58 years of marriage.
Florence and Lester moved to Lawrence in 1947. They bought a little home where Allen Fieldhouse sets today. They moved to North Lawrence after the flood in 1951. In 1955 they moved to Delaware Street and in 1960 moved to Eudora.
Florence worked for Stokely-Van Camp for 33 years. She retired as a Lab Technician in 1976. Florence and Lester then moved to the Lake of the Ozarks where she loved to fish. In 1988 they returned to Lawrence.
She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Lawrence.
Survivors include one daughter, Bernice, and husband Bill Vervynck, Lawrence; two sons, W.L. Sarlls, Tucson, AZ, Clyde Sarlls, Oskaloosa; one sister, Anna May Morris, Eugene OR; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.
She was also preceded in death by six sisters, Velma Stewart, Emma Jo Barnes, Louise Fields, Paulene Wright, Allene Hawkins, Dorthy Dell McMillen; five brothers, Newton Garvin, Lacy Garvin, John Garvin, Marc Garvin, Roy Garvin; and one granddaughter, Karen Kay Sarlls.
The family will greet friends from noon until service time on Thursday at the mortuary.
The family suggests memorials in her name to Medicalodges Eudora, Visiting Nurses of Douglas County, or Fellowship Baptist Church and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
