Larry L. Bates, 63, of Waverly, NE, died Monday (12-17-12) in Lincoln. He was born (10-15-49) in Lawrence, KS to Virgil and Helen Bates. He was a Freight Carman at Burlington Northern Railroad. He is survived by his wife, Alice; son, Kevin M. (Denise) Bates, Goodyear, AZ; daughter, Kimberly D. Bates, Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, Claire N., Aidan M., Lila A., Ruthann O. Bates; sisters, Edna (John) Curran, Moberly, MO, Judy (John) Bryant, Lawrence, KS, Rita (Steve) Fisher, Perry, KS; brother, Gilbert Bates; mother, Helen Bates, Lawrence, KS; nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be 11a.m., Saturday (12- 22-12) at Maple Grove Cemetery, Lecompton, KS. Larry will lie in state after 4 p.m., Friday at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Memorial in lieu of flowers to American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Rd, Topeka, KS 66604.
