William Kenneth Roberts 1950 - 2012 Lecompton
William Kenneth Roberts, age 61, died at his home in Lecompton, KS on July 19, 2012.
He was born in Littleton, CO on August 2, 1950 the son of Kenneth and Lena Jane Roberts. His mother died when he was six and his father was unable to raise him so he was raised by the Springer family in Douglas County and was particularly close to his Aunt Dorothy Springer.
He was a graduate of Lawrence High School. He joined the Air Force National Guard during the Vietnam War and completed his training in Wichita, KS in four weeks instead of the usual twelve and did so with honors.
He was employed at Hallmark Cards for 41 years. He is survived by his companion Victoria Bahnmaier, of the home, and two sisters Donna Ricci of Leeds, Utah and Mary Jane Rubano of Las Vegas, NV.
After his retirement from Hallmark he greatly enjoyed working on his farm south of Lecompton and taking care of his horses.
Bill was very interested in Lecompton history and particularly in the preservation of the old high school building thus memorials may be sent to the Committee for Pride, c/o of Bobby Morris, PO Box 197, Lecompton, KS 66050 and will be used in the effort to preserve the old high school in Lecompton.
He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. He was cremated and the family plans a memorial service in the spring of 2013. Services will be announced later.
Online condolences may be sent to www.warrenmcelwain.com.
