Vernon L. Christian

Vernon L. Christian, 71, Baldwin City, died April 25, 2012. He was born on April 30, 1940 in rural northwest Douglas County, the son of George Christian and Evelyne (Heyl) Christian.
Vernon began his working life as a laborer in construction primarily in concrete work. He eventually became a concrete finisher and then purchased the company he worked for, Spriggs Construction and renamed it Christian Construction, continuing to work in construction until 2000. In 1982, he also began working for Brubaker Amusement, running a daily route for their video and amusement machines.
Vernon was united in marriage with Joan Brubaker on May 25, 1961 at Ives Chapel in Baldwin City. They shared over 50 years together.
He is survived by his wife Joan Christian of their home; two sons, Thomas Christian and wife Cheryl, and Kevin Vernon Christian and wife Kim, all of Baldwin City; five siblings, Shirley Patterson, Jim Christian and Connie Flory, all of Lawrence, Janet Means, McLouth, and Raymond Christian, Overbrook; eleven grandchildren, Julie, Eric, Scott, Ryan, Jarad, Adam, Tayler, Luke, Cameron, Jordan, Catherine; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Monday, April 30, 2012, at Ives Chapel United Methodist Church, Baldwin City. Burial will follow at Clinton Cemetery.
Mr. Christian’s family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Baldwin City.
