Norman Wyatt Brammell

Funeral service for Norman Wyatt Brammell, 80, Lawrence, will be held 11 am Thursday April, 19, 2012 at First United Methodist Church. Burial with Military Honors follow at Ozawkie Cemetery. Mr. Brammell died April 13, 2012 with grace and dignity after fighting a long battle with Parkinsons Disease. He was born on February 15, 1932 in Ozawkie, KS the son of Guy Henry and Bessie Emma (Johnson) Brammell. Norman served in the US Army as a Corporal during the Korean War. He also was a K-9 trainer. Norman received his MA in Education and Business from Emporia State University. He taught in Meriden and Horton, but the main part of his teaching career was at Wellsville High School for 27 years (1966-1993). He enjoyed his summers painting houses with two friends. Norman was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence and the Dorsey Liberty Post #14, American Legion. He married Marjorie Ann Swoyer on July 1, 1959 in Oskaloosa, KS. She survives of the home. Other survivors include two daughters, Marianne Brammell Lyon (Larry) Chaska, MN and Sonja Lynn Merino-Brammell (Fred) Olathe; 5 grandchildren, April, Lauren, Trevor, David, and Nicolas. He was the 11th of 12 children, Max Brammell, Angie Curtis, Florene Johnson, Madene Schiable are surviving. He was preceded in death by 5 sisters and 2 brothers. The family will greet friends from 6 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
