Mary W. Tefft

Memorial services for Mary W. Tefft, 86, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Private inurnment will be at a later date.
She died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born Dec. 4, 1924, in Chicago, the daughter of Sigwald Morris and Bertha Iris Dunlap Hammer. She grew up and attended schools in Tulsa, Okla.
Mrs. Tefft worked for the Philbrooks Art Center in Tulsa, and after she moved to Lawrence, she had various positions with Kansas University, including the KU arts museum and later at the East Asian Library. She assisted in the initiation and founding of the International Sculpture Center and its conferences.
She married Elden Tefft on July 28, 1947, in Tulsa. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include her son, Kim Trevor and wife Wanda June, Lawrence; and four grandchildren, Jared Elijah, Janell Esther, Jonathan Erza and Joanna Elisabeth.
The family suggests memorials to H.E.A.L.T.H. Foundation (Heritage Education through Art, Literature, Technology and Heroes) or to the Benevolences Fund through Indian Ave. Southern Baptist Church, sent in care of the mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
