Amos B. Birdcreek 1931 - 2011 Lawrence
Funeral services for Amos B. Birdcreek, 80, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Military graveside honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.
He died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar in Lawrence.
He was born Aug. 28, 1931, in Weleetka, Okla., the son of Lewis and Ida Robison Birdcreek.
He attended kindergarten through seventh grade at the Euchee Boarding School in Sapulpa, Okla. He graduated from high school at Haskell. He also went through the post-high school plumbing program at Haskell. He was a member of the Muscogee Creek Nation.
Mr. Birdcreek served his country for 20 years in the Army National Guard of Kansas.
He was a retired teacher, plumber and draftsman. He worked part time for the Kansas Turnpike Authority for a number of years.
He married Valeta Tah on Aug. 12, 1960, in Winfield. They later divorced.
Survivors include three daughters, Gwendolyn Ramirez, Lawrence, Brenda Birdcreek, Lawence, and Kimberly Birdcreek, Lawrence; a son, Ben Birdcreek, of Tulsa, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Wesley, Shawn, Vincent, Jessica, Benson, Abraham and Emmie; and four great-grandchildren, Kyle, Camryn, Hunter and Hailey.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his three siblings.
The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
