Eugene “Mick” R. Norris, 75, of Edgerton, KS, passed away September 8, 2011 at the family dairy farm surrounded by his family and his beloved cows. A true dairyman; he had milked for over 60 years. Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:00 am Monday morning, September 12, 2011 at Assumption Catholic Church, 114 E Nelson, Edgerton, with burial following at the St. Columbine Catholic Cemetery, Edgerton. A Rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening, September 11, 2011, with the Visitation following until 8:30 p.m. at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS, 913-856-7111. Mick was born on July 31, 1936 in Kansas City, MO to Eugene R. and Marie C. (Powers) Norris and moved to the current farm in 1940. He was a 1954 Edgerton High School graduate. Mick married Patty Gillespie on May 18, 1963 in Edgerton. Mick loved being a farmer, working the land and leading a simple life. He loved his cows until his very last day. Upon his father’s death, at the age of 14, he took over the family farm, and at the age of 15 the farm became a Grade “A” Dairy. He was a Vigortone feed dealer for 40 years, member of the Dairy Association for 60 years and a life-long member of the Assumption Catholic Church in Edgerton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sisters, Patricia and Rose Marie and his brother Bill. Mick is survived by his extra special loving wife of 48 years, Patty; his adoring children Dan Norris and fiance’ Linda, Mike and wife Jean Norris, Julie Norris-Johns and husband Joel Johns and Barb Norris-Lewis and husband Travis, all of Edgerton; six incredible grandkids who loved grandpa and his farm dearly: Tyler, Paige and Claire Johns, Ellie, Will and Jack Lewis; and four step grandchildren, Mark, Paul, Adam and Jamie; brother John and Dale Norris of Bedford, TX; sister Rosie and Ernie Mayfield of Georgetown, IN; and sister JoAnn and Chuck Patterson of Dwight, KS; sister-in-law Mayrene Norris of Gardner; and very close friend and best buddy Herman Ackmann of Nortonville, KS.
