Donald L. Karr 1927 - 2011 Lawrence

Funeral services for Donald L. Karr, 84, Lawrence, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. at Graceland Cemetery in Burlington.
He died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at his home in Lawrence.
He was born Sept. 13, 1927, in Burlington, the son of John William and Addene Pearl Traylor Karr.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the World War II, serving in the South Pacific on the USS Washburn.
He was a member of VFW Local Post #852 where he has held an office position since 1950. He was also a member of Local Union IBEW #226, Topeka.
He was an electrician for Norris Brothers and retired from the local union in 1988. He later worked for Kansas University in the electrical department until he retired in 1992.
He married Elizabeth “Pearl” Knoblock on March 5, 1949, in Emporia. She preceded him in death Dec. 2, 1992.
Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Karr and Jerald Karr, both of Lawrence, and Donald L. Karr Jr. and wife Cynthia, Topeka; three grandchildren, John T. Karr, Travis J. Karr, and Erica S. Griffin; and two sisters, Lucille Reed, Topeka, and Mary Ellis, Olathe.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to VFW Local Post #852 and may be sent in care of the mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
