Robert E. 'Bob' Chamberlin 1927 - 2011 rural Baldwin City
Funeral services for Robert E. “Bob” Chamberlin, 83, rural Baldwin City, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Worden United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Clinton Cemetery, Clinton.
Mr. Chamberlin died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, at his home.
He was born Oct. 28, 1927, in Topeka, the son of Walter F. and Gladys N. Swearingen Chamberlin. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1947.
Mr. Chamberlin worked as a licensed land surveyor for the city of Lawrence. He later was a partner in Young & Brockway Engineering and Switzer & Chamberlin before retiring in 1992 as Public Works Director for Franklin County. He also farmed and raised registered Hampshire and Yorkshire hogs, and was the swine superintendent at the Douglas County Fair for many years. He was a member of Clinton Presbyterian Church and the Kansas Society of Land Surveyors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, woodworking and his beloved schnauzer, Misty.
He married Mary Ann Herschell on Nov. 26, 1949, in Topeka. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include three sons, James and wife Rhonda, Quenemo, John and wife Yolanda, Overland Park, and Dean and wife Saleena, Fort Hood, Texas; three daughters, Nancy Cronn and husband Charles, Lyndon, Peggy Barden and husband Bob, De Pere, Wis., and Shirley McElhenie and husband Patrick, Sauk City, Wis.; two stepsisters, Ardis Pipkin, St. Charles, Mo., and Lois Myrick, Topeka; and 21 grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepbrother, Leon Talbott, a stepsister, Donna Talty, and a granddaughter.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
