Nancy Ellen Ladd Leet 1930 - 2011

A funeral service for Nancy Leet, 81, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Barber Funeral Home in Johnson City, N.Y. A memorial service at the Lawrence Presbyterian Manor will be at a later date.
She died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011.
She was born Feb. 23, 1930, in Binghamton, N.Y., the daughter of Maurice Ladd and Virginia Edgecombe Ladd Ridley. She attended Cornell University.
Mrs. Leet worked for the Atomic Energy Commission in New York City until moving to Long Island, where her three children were born.
In 1971, they moved to Naperville, Ill., where she worked at North Central College for the dean of students, helping college students, until her retirement in 1986.
She and her husband spent winters in North Fort Myers, Fla., and summers at their home, “Hilltop,” south of Binghamton. Most recently, she had lived at the Presbyterian Manor in Lawrence. Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care took care of her for several months.
She was an active member of Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, PTA, Pi Beta Phi and PEO. She was involved in her church community wherever they lived, especially the Prayer Shawl Ministry in Florida. Mrs. Leet was one of the first volunteers of the Naperville Community Recycling Center.
She married William “Bill” Leet on June 30, 1951. He preceded her in death April 26, 2006.
She is survived by her brother, Mark Ridley and wife Nadine, Edenton, N.C.; three children, Wendy Leet Vertacnik and husband David, Lawrence, Curt Leet, Ely, Nev., and Betsy Leet Macy and husband Jeffrey, Bend, Ore.; grandchildren Andrew Vertacnik, Martin Vertacnik, Sean Leet, Aquilegia Leet, Alana Leet, Christina Macy and Kelsey Macy; one great-grandchild, Drew Vertacnik; a sister-in-law, Janet Rice; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held an hour before the funeral at the Barber Funeral Home.
