John ‘Jack’ H. Denton

Funeral services for John H. ‘Jack” Denton, 78, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Lawrence Free Methodist Church. Private burial will be later at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka.
Mr. Denton died on Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, at his home.
He was born on Sept. 17, 1933, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Donald F. and Barbara Pollock Denton. He moved to Lawrence in 1967 from Topeka.
He attended Kansas State University and Pittsburg State University and was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Mr. Denton worked as an operator and later as a custodian at the Lawrence Paper Company from 1977 to 1999. From 1966 to 1977, he worked as a linotype operator for Allen Press in Lawrence.
He was a member of the Lawrence Free Methodist Church and the Countryside TLC Group at the church. He enjoyed golfing and was also an avid swimmer.
He married Ava Lea Davies on March 22, 1958, in Junction City. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Barbara A. Guthery and husband Kenneth of Beattyville, Ky., and Susan Lea Agosto and husband Hector, of El Camino Village, Calif.; two sisters, Jane Warren, his twin sister, of Greeley, Colo., and Barbara Gail Noe, of Topeka; and four grandchildren, Mason Dean Guthery, Hope Elizabeth Agosto, Ciera Briann Guthery and Sarai Marie Agosto.
The family will greet friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
The family suggests memorials to the Lawrence Free Methodist Church or to Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care, sent in care of the mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
