Coral Jean Sheppard

Graveside services for Coral Jean Sheppard, 88, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, at Memorial Park Cemetery.
She died Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at her home.
She was born Feb., 8, 1923, in Baldwin City, the daughter of George Dewey and Grace Keller Schmitendorf.
She attended Liberty Memorial High School and graduated from Baldwin High School in 1941. She then attended Baker University, Kansas University and the University of Maryland.
She worked for the U.S. Attorney’s Office Western District of Missouri and retired in 1986. After retirement, she moved to Parachute, Colo. She returned to Lawrence in 1990.
She was a former member of VFW, volunteer at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and Kaw Valley Quilters Guild.
She married William H. Sheppard on Nov. 27, 1946, in Lawrence at Danforth Chapel. He preceded her in death Dec. 27, 1994.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother, George Dewey Schmitendorf Jr., a grandson, Beau W. Sheppard, and son-in-law Ronald Hobbs.
Survivors include six children, Connie Hobbs, Marshall, Ark., Susan Cramer and husband Ivan, Chandler, Ariz., and Joyce Tallman, Betty Jo Sheppard, John W. Sheppard and wife Linda, and Thomas (Dick) Sheppard and wife Shirley, all of Lawrence; a brother, James Schmitendorf and wife Dottie, Rapid City, S.D.; a sister, Gloria M. Bieloblocki and husband John, Sylva, N.C.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Lawrence Humane Society or to Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care, sent in care of the mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
