Viola 'Babs' A. Murphy 1919 - 2011 Lawrence
Private memorial services and inurnment for Viola A. “Babs” Murphy, 92, Lawrence, will be at a later date.
Mrs. Murphy died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar in Lawrence.
She was born Sept. 28, 1919, in Wayside, the daughter of Oscar and Susan Beard Maupin.
Mrs. Murphy was a homemaker and also had owned a peach and apple orchard in Conway Springs for many years. She had lived in Conway Springs for 20 years, and Aurora, Colo., for 30 years, before moving to Lawrence just three weeks ago. She enjoyed life in many ways, including her family, the mountains and animals, especially dogs.
Mrs. Murphy was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Aurora Book Club, and the Aurora Women’s Club. Formerly, she served her daughters as a PTA member, a frequent school room mother, and a costume maker.
She married to Claude “Pat” Murphy on Sept. 11, 1981, in Ottawa. He preceded her in death April 19, 1981.
Survivors include two daughters, Sheila Immel and husband John, Lawrence, and Patricia Johnson and husband Dennis, Centennial, Colo.; four grandchildren, Jamie Immel Turner, Jennifer Immel Oldridge, Taylor Johnson Foster and Alexandra Murphy Johnson; and five great-grandchildren.
