Lewis William Kleim 1946 - 2011 Lawrence
A Memorial Mass for Lewis William Kliem, 65, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence. Inurnment will take place at a later date at St. Concordia Catholic Cemetery in Concordia.
Mr. Kliem died Friday, May 13, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 20, 1946, in Salina, the son of Edwin Francis and Harriett Violet Kelsey Kliem.
He served 23 years in the U.S. Navy, including service in Vietnam. During his service, Mr. Kliem worked as a corpsman and biomedical repairman. Later, he retired from Lawrence Memorial Hospital where he continued his work as a biomedical repairman for 20 years.
Mr. Kliem was a member of the American Legion, Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 and Corpus Christi Catholic Church, where he was involved with prayer groups, Marriage Encounter, served as an usher and as a Lay Eucharistic Minister. His many friends knew him as an avid golfer.
He married Ann Chaput on July 28, 1966, in Concordia. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Marcey Jo Reilly and husband Dennis, Kansas City, Mo., and Judi Ann Higgins and husband Brent, Steamboat Springs, Colo.; five sons, Lewis Von and wife Becca, Charlottesville, Va., Jonathan Wade, Marc William and wife Erin, Alex Edwin and wife Dorothy, and Matthew Thomas and wife Deborah, all of Lawrence; a sister, Sandra Kay Peterson and husband Gene, Salina;14 grandchildren and a grandson on the way; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
A rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. today followed by a visitation until 7 p.m. at the church.
The family suggests memorials to Corpus Christi Catholic Church or to the American Cancer Society, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
