Ralph ‘Wayne’ Jenkins

Funeral services for Ralph “Wayne” Jenkins, 88, Winfield, a former long-time resident of Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will be at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.
Mr. Jenkins died Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield. He had been a resident of Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield for the last four years.
He was born Aug. 14, 1922, in Emporia, the son of Samuel Evan and Ruth Ann Vickrey Jenkins.
He grew up in Emporia and attended Emporia Senior High until he was drafted into the Army Air Corps. Most of his duty time was spent in England.
Mr. Jenkins worked for the A&P Grocery store in the produce department for 17 years and later was a self-employed painter until his retirement.
He married Vera Cope in 1945 in Hemple Hempstead, England. Vera, his ex-wife, preceded him in death on Jan. 15, 2004.
He married Juanita Neis in 1969. She preceded him in death on June 10, 2005.
Survivors include three sons, David and wife Della, Rochester, Minn., Danny and wife Kathleen, Wichita, and Dennis and wife Sheila, Maui, Hawaii; two granddaughters; five grandsons; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the service time on Monday.
