Kay Prather Rodriguez 1941 - 2011

Kay Prather Rodriguez was born on May 26, 1941 in Kingman, Kansas. She was the only child of Paul Prather and Pearl Prather of McPherson, Kansas. Kay is survived by her husband Ramon Rodriguez of Lawrence, Kansas. Kay passed away on Tuesday, May 3rd, in Buffalo, New York.
As a child Kay’s parents moved for a while to California. Kay ended up going to UCLA and graduated in Nursing in l964 and took a job at Santa Monica Hospital. She was recruited in l974 to join the Air Force. She had a wonderful life with the Air Force and traveled to many exciting places including Germany. She rose through the ranks and retired in l995 as a Lt. Colonel. She lived in Illinois for a while where she went back to school and received her CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesiologist). Kay moved back to Kansas and worked at a hospital in Kansas City and most recently Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She retired from nursing in February 2010.
Kay was passionate about life and tried and did everything. She was an avid downhill skiier, she had her scuba diving certification, she learned judo, square dancing, water skiing, took square dancing lessons, singing classes, learned to make jewelry, and most recently yoga classes from Susan Garner. She loved to read and travel and was a very giving and caring person. Kay also loved her mission work and traveled to South Africa with Country Club Christian Church. Kay also loved her pets dearly.
