Dr. Mary S. Boyden 1914 - 2011 Lawrence
A memorial service for Dr. Mary S. Boyden, 96, Lawrence, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, 1263 N. 1100 Road.
Dr. Boyden died Monday, April 25, 2011.
She was born Nov. 24, 1914, in Boston, the daughter of Edward A. and Margaret Hilsinger Boyden.
Dr. Boyden earned bachelor’s and medical degrees from the University of Minnesota and moved to Lawrence to begin her practice in 1942. She practiced as an obstetrician, pediatrician and pediatric allergist in Lawrence for 41 years before retiring in 1983. She also served as faculty member in the allergy clinic at Kansas University Medical Center.
She played the viola with the Lawrence Chamber Players for many years and enjoyed reading, travel and politics.
Dr. Boyden was active in the Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, Lawrence Music Club and Older Women’s League.
Survivors include a nephew, Thomas Boyden; a niece, Wendy Wenner; two grandnieces, Rachel Gardner and Jennifer Wenner; and three great-grandnephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Arthur Boyden.
The family suggests memorials to the Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence or the Douglas County Community Foundation, sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, 3821 W. Sixth St., Lawrence, KS 66049.
