Fred Stewart

8.24.1938 – 6.26.2011
Fred Stewart, 72, of Eudora Kansas, died June 26, 2011. He was born August 24, 1938, in Timbo, Arkansas, a son of Theodore Francis and Elvie Fox Stewart. He enjoyed small town Arkansas life growing up and had many stories of his time at the Busters’ pool hall, high school basketball games and running moonshine before graduating from the Mountain View, AR, class of 1957.
He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Henderson on September 6, 1958, in Mountain View. They had two children, a daughter, Patricia, followed two years later by a son, Johnny. Patricia is now married to Joe Betteken and they have three children, Joey, Michael and Jeffery. Johnny is married to Julie Laws and they have one child, Grant.
Other survivors include his sister, Martha Wilson of Heber Springs AR, sister-in-laws Betty Stewart of Conway, AR, who was married to Fred’s brother Wendy, Ilene Stewart of Luray, MO, who was married to Fred’s brother L.E. “Duke” Stewart, and Mary Ann Stewart and special friend Glenda Rose.
Fred never knew a stranger. He truly enjoyed interacting with new friends, old friends and trying new business ventures. He enjoyed his time serving in a public role as Mayor and City Council for his new small town, Eudora. Some of Fred’s more unique opportunities in business were sawmill owner/operator, firewood distributor, restaurant owner, pipe fitter, home builder, and in the last few years of his life running a farmers market stall.
Fred chose to leave this world without fanfare; his wishes were to have an intimate graveside service in Timbo, AR. He wanted to be buried in simple dress with his head facing the mountain. It’s appropriate that Fred’s heart was enlarged when he died; his heart was always open to those in need.
Rest in peace Fred, your friends and family will miss you dearly. With much love and kindness, your family. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Fred’s church which he helped build during its construction phase: Family of Faith, 2295 N. 1300 Rd., PO Box 721, Eudora, KS 66025.
