Paid family tribute
Lyndon — Ben Schreiber, 72, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2011, at his home near Lyndon, Kansas. He was born on December 6, 1938 in Alma, Kansas, the son of William and Eda Schmanke Schreiber.
He grew up near Lyndon and had lived in Hoyt for several years before moving back to the Lyndon area in 1982.
Ben had worked for Du Pont/Flexel in Topeka until he retired after 32 years of service. He had served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1959. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church at Vassar, the MI Singers and the Community Christmas Choir. Ben had been a loyal friend of Bill W’s for 25 years and everyone had learned to respect and honor him for his honesty, his moral uprightness, his courage and his kind-heartedness. Ben loved gardening, working on the farm and being outdoors.
On November 27, 1960, Ben was married to Peggy Mathieu in Vassar.
Ben is survived by his wife, Peggy, of 50 years; his son, Steve Schreiber (Laurie) of Mayetta, his two daughters, Wendi Schreiber (Rene’) of Michigan Valley and Julie Wyatt (Bryan) of Lawrence; his two brothers, Merle Schreiber of Topeka and Ivan Schreiber of La Jolla, CA.; his sister, Jane Stresewski of Olathe; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services for Ben will be held at 10:30am on Monday, June 27 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Vassar. Burial will be in the Lyndon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm on Sunday at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church or Midland Hospice Care and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
