Richard Lee Moberly, 68 of De Soto, KS, passed away on June 10, 2011. Family visitation is scheduled for June 14, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa KS. The funeral will be June 15 at 10:00 a.m., at Porter Funeral Home with graveside service to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
Richard Moberly was born on Dec. 13, 1942 in Kansas City, KS, to Clyde and Ann Moberly. He attended St. John’s elementary school in Argentine, and graduated from De La Salle Military Academy. He attended Pittsburg State University where he joined Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity, then transferred to UMKC and graduated with a B.S. in Geology.
He worked for Woodward, Clyde & Assoc. (now URS Corp.) and was V.P. & Sr. Geologist. He was a member of Assoc. of Engineering Geologists; Board Member of KS Board of Technical Professionals and served as chairman from 2008-2009; a committee member of ASTM D18 and received Outstanding Achievement Award in 2005; a member of ASTM Council of Examiners and received ASTM Standard of Excellence Award 1999-2002; a member of the KS Geological Survey; and served on the City of De Soto Planning Commission from 2003-2008. He was a registered Geologist in Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa.
Richard is survived by his wife, Linda, and his son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Rebecca of Vieques Island, P.R.; John and Jennifer Batten, brother and sister-in-law; and nephew, Jack Batten.
