George Roy Morris

Funeral service for George Roy Morris, 85, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Mr. Morris died Friday, June 10, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 30, 1925, in Pettigrew, Ark., the son of George N. and Zona Hinkle Morris.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a Silver Star medalist while serving in the 66th Armored Infantry in Europe.
Mr. Morris was a construction worker for Hamm, Missouri Valley, Constant, Austin and Kansas Construction companies. He retired from Dunbar in 1987. He was a member of the Labor Union 1290 and a lifetime member of the VFW. His hobbies include hunting and gardening.
He married Juanita Nichols on April 22, 1944, in Ozark, Ark. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include three daughters, Onita Myer and husband John, Lawrence, Mary Kathryn Morris and husband Bruce N. Humphreys, Overland Park, and Annette Evans and husband Greg, Lecompton; one brother, Herman Morris, Eudora; three grandsons, Robert C. Mugridge Jr., Benjamin Roy Mugridge and Jakeb M. Evans; one great-granddaughter, Madilyn Amy Mugridge; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters.
The family will greet friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to the American Red Cross to help the tornado victims of Franklin and Johnson County, Ark.
