Linda Jean (Maturo) McGuire, of Lawrence, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Kansas City Hospice House surrounded by her family.
Linda was born in Kansas City, attended St. Teresa’s Academy and graduated from the University of Kansas. She remained in Lawrence as a devoted teacher for 39 years and retired as the Adult Learning Center Facilitator for the Lawrence Public School District. During her career, she impacted the lives of many students who would have not otherwise had the opportunity to complete their education. Thanks to her vision and dedication the Adult Learning Center is a vibrant, on-going program.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents Patrick M. and Virginia J. Maturo of Kansas City. She is survived by her sons, Michael P. McGuire and wife Ivy of Denver, CO, and Matthew B. McGuire of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; her brother, James V. Maturo and wife Judy; her sister, Rosemary Lovett and husband Larry, sister Patricia Brewer and husband Joseph; and many nieces and nephews.
Special love and gratitude to Ivy McGuire, who unselfishly cared for Linda during the last months of her life, and to her devoted dog, Baby J, who stayed by Linda’s side throughout her illness.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 10th, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at McGilley State Line Chapel. Liturgy Service will be held Saturday, June 11th, 10:00 a.m., at McGilley State Line Chapel followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Linda’s name to: Lawrence Public Schools USD 497, Linda McGuire Memorial Scholarship, 110 McDonald Drive, Lawrence, KS, 66044, ATTN: Kathy Johnson.
Linda was a kind and gentle person, devoted to her family and friends.
