Elizabeth P. 'Betty' Marzluff 1920 - 2011 Lawrence
A Memorial Mass for Elizabeth P. “Betty” Marzluff, 90, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence. Inurnment will be later in the U.S. Naval Academy Cemetery in Annapolis, Md.
Mrs. Marzluff died Saturday, June 4, 2011, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar in Lawrence.
She was born Oct. 6, 1920, in Cleveland, the daughter of Giovani B. and Margaret Paltani Polli. Mrs. Marzluff was a graduate of the Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in education.
She was retired as the coordinator of special education for Charleston County schools in Charleston, S.C. Earlier in her career, she taught home economics. In 1969, she and her husband moved to Lawrence from Charleston.
In Lawrence, Mrs. Marzluff was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, Phi (Upsilon) Omicron, PEO Sisterhood, Lawrence Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Women’s Guild at Corpus Christi, KU Retirees Club, KU Chapter of University Women’s Club and the Countryside Garden Club.
She married Capt. Joseph O. Marzluff on July 12, 1944, in Gates Mills, Ohio. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include three sons, Dr. Joseph M. Marzluff and wife Marcie, Charleston, retired Rear Adm. Peter Marzluff and wife Deborah, Washington, D.C., and Dr. John M. Marzluff and wife Coleen, Seattle; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the St. Coletta School for Exceptional Children in Jefferson, Wis., or to a charity of the donor’s choice, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
