Ryan L. Moore 1974 - 2011 Lawrence
Memorial services for Ryan L. Moore, M.D., 36, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Private inurnment will be at a later date.
He died Friday, July 15, 2011, after a kayak accident on the Kansas River.
He was born Oct. 11, 1974 in Dodge City, KS, the son of Robert Lee and Ivy J. Reed Moore.
After graduating from high school in Sublette, he received an Associate of Science degree from Garden City Community College and was a member of the National Honor Society. He then earned his Bachelor of Science in organismal biology from Kansas University. Mr. Moore finished his Doctorate of Medicine and residency at KU School of Medicine. He was board certified in both internal medicine and pediatrics. After his training, he worked with emergency medical services at Cushing Memorial Hospital in Leavenworth, and in emergency medicine at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Moore was a hospitalist at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Topeka. He had recently accepted an appointment to become chief of staff. He was also part-time staff member at KU Medical Center as a clinical assistant professor.
He was an Eagle Scout and volunteered as a staff physician at the Philmont Boy Scout Ranch in Cimarron, N.M., through KU School of Medicine. He was involved in Medical Missions, was a member of the Sublette United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the American Medical Association.
He married Laura Menees Moore on May 15, 2007, in Antigua.
Other survivors include a daughter, Nico Jeanne Moore; his parents, Sublette; a sister, Christine Moore, Amarillo, Texas; and his maternal grandmother, Margaret Reed, Alma, Neb.
The family suggests memorials to KU Endowment Association for the Ryan Moore Scholarship Fund, sent in care of the mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
