Elvin E. ‘Babe’ Dillon

Elvin E. “Babe” Dillon, 87 of Baldwin City, KS passed away on Monday, July 4, 2011 at the Baldwin Healthcare and Rehab. of Baldwin City, KS.
Babe was born November 6, 1923, in Richland, KS to Thomas L. and Rosa (Turner) Dillon. He attended area schools, graduating from Appanoose High School with the class of 1941.
Babe served his country in the United States Army Corp during W. W. II. While serving he received the American Theater Ribbon, W.W. II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged November 28, 1946, as an 1st Lt.
On December 18, 1945, in Baldwin City, KS, he married Clarice LaVergne Flora. They shared 60 years of marriage before her passing on May 27, 2006.
Early in life Babe worked for the Woolworth Store in Ottawa. He later was co-owner of Butell-Dillon Milk Hauling. He delivered 6 milk routes daily. He was the co-owner of the Franklin County Sale Barn from 1962 until 1971. In 1971 he became the owner/operator of the Franklin County Sale Barn retiring in 1992.
He was a 60 years plus member of the American Legion Lloyd Beaton Post #228 of Baldwin City, KS. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge of Ottawa, KS.
Survivors include his sons Tom Dillon and wife Dianna of Baldwin City, KS and Dallas Dillon and wife Susan of Modesto, CA; three grandchildren Slade Dillon of Baldwin City, KS, Travis Dillon of Lawrence, KS and Dina Dillon of Mission, KS; sisters Letha Louk of Lawrence, KS, Emma Mae Crawford of Baldwin City, KS and Charlotte Ikenberry of Lawrence, KS and a host of nieces and nephews.
Babe was preceded in death by his parents and brother LaVerne “Bud” Dillon.
Graveside services will be 2:00 pm, Friday, July 8, 2011 at the Washington Creek Cemetery in rural Douglas County, KS with Chaplain Chuck Murphy officiating. Military rites will be given by the American Legion, Lloyd Beaton Post #228, of Baldwin City. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm until 1:30 pm on Friday at the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, 712 9th St., Baldwin City, KS 66006. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 1:30pm on Friday. Family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home. The family suggests expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to Hospice Care of Kansas. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O.
