Emma J. Garrett 1924 - 2011 Lawrence

Funeral services for Emma J. Garrett, 87, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
She died Monday, July 4, 2011, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community in Lawrence.
Mrs. Garrett was born April 4, 1924, in Oakley, the daughter of Robert H. and Edna Gross Vawter. She was a resident of Lawrence since 1946.
She was a homemaker. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Eagles, Lawrence Hospital Auxiliary, India EHU, and American Legion Auxiliary.
She married Marvin B. Garrett on Oct. 22, 1944, in Oakley. He preceded her in death July 22, 2005.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, John W. Vawter, one sister, Roberta V. Meek, and one stepgrandson.
Survivors include two sons, Robert B. Garrett and wife Rhonda, Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Jerry L. Garrett and wife Camille, Lawrence; one daughter, Janet L. Cantin and husband Casey, Overland Park; five grandchildren, Neil, Danielle Scully, Marc, Tari Curtis and Kari; two stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
