Harold Dean Wilkins 1948 - 2011 Lawrence
Services for Harold Dean Wilkins, 63, Perry, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be in Underwood Cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Wilkins died Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 25, 1948, in Bennington, Okla., the son of George Andrew and Rena Dimple McIntyre Wilkins. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1966. He had lived in the Lawrence area since 1963.
Mr. Wilkins served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and was a material handler at Berry Plastics. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed playing pool, cards, singing karaoke, all sports, KU Jayhawks, and in his younger years he was a great baseball player.
He married Glenda Kay Howard in August 1970 in Ottawa. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Michael Dean and wife Candy, and Eric Matthew and wife Crystal, all of Perry; two brothers, Jimmy Ray and wife Judy, Lawrence, and Jerry Edward and wife Lila, Fayetteville, N.C.; two sisters, Lorene Minyard, Brownfield, Texas, and Jewell Rogers and husband Bill, Galena; seven grandchildren, Skye, Michelle, Ivy, Marissa, Jacob, Jenny and Tanya; and a great-granddaughter, Cassie.
He was preceded in death by brothers George Leon, Robert Dale, and Victor James; and sisters Ada Mae Walker and Nona Lee Middleton.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The family suggests memorials to the Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka.
