Tom Barkley Hobson

Funeral services for Tom Barkley Hobson, 82, Baldwin City, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Worden United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City.
Mr. Hobson died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 4, 1929, in rural Baldwin City, the son of Donald Stephen Hobson and Mary Maria “Mae” Barkley Hobson. He graduated from Baldwin High School in 1947.
Mr. Hobson worked as a millwright for Farmland Industries for 37 years, retiring in September 1991. He was an active member of Worden United Methodist Church.
He married Marie Joyce Longstreth on Nov. 27, 1955, at Ives Chapel in Baldwin City. They shared 56 years of marriage. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Kim Heckathorne and husband John and Kelly Schwartz and husband, Greg, all of Baldwin City; a brother, Steve Hobson, Jefferson City, Mo.; a sister, Donalda Lindholm and husband Duaine, Baldwin City; and five grandchildren, Kelsey Heckathorne, Charley Jo Schwartz, Colby Heckathorne, Camdon Schwartz and Hayley Schwartz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, June Hobson; and a brother, Gene Hobson.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Worden United Methodist Church, where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
