David Monroe Stalcup 1928 - 2011 Tonganoxie
A Memorial Service for David Monroe Stalcup, 83, Tonganoxie, will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at the Tonganoxie Christian Church.
Mr. Stalcup died Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Leavenworth.
He was born July 25, 1928, in Harrisonville, Mo., the son of Archie and Clara Rosalie Hicks Stalcup. He was a 1947 graduate of Harrisonville High School.
He worked at the foundry, and then the local grocery store.
He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in January of 1951 and served through 1954 during the Korean War. He was stationed at Travis Air Force Base in California and attended advanced training in inventory control at Francis E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyo.
He worked in the grocery business at Myers Buyway in Kansas City, Kan. He later worked in the area grocery business for Kroger Company, Isis Foods Distributors and Midcentral Sysco Foods, where he retired in 1992.
Wherever he lived he was always involved with his local Church.
He married Clara Ward on October 14, 1955, in Kansas City, Kan. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Brian Stalcup, Kansas City, Kan., and Doug and wife Janet, Basehor; one daughter, Ruth Beggs and husband Richard, Tonganoxie; and five grandchildren, Brett, Ryan and Sarah Stalcup, and Kayla and Nikole Beggs.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur Wilton, Charles Hoover and Archie Everett; one sister, Rosalie Ruth; and his parents, Archie and Clara Rosalie Stalcup.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until the service time Tuesday at the church.
