Virginia Longfellow

Graveside services for Virginia Longfellow, 84, Lawrence, will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Nathan Rovenstine will officiate.
Mrs. Longfellow died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at her home.
She was born Sept. 17, 1927, in Boicourt, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Anna Hidy Steele. Mrs. Longfellow grew up in Missouri and Kansas and graduated from De Soto High School in 1945. She moved to Lawrence in 1948.
Mrs. Longfellow worked as a crossing guard for 14 years at Sunset and Woodlawn schools.
She married Delbert Olin Longfellow on March 18, 1948, in Bentonville, Ark. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Sterling and companion Debra, Lawrence, and Jay and wife Diane, Wichita; a daughter, Anita Gardner, Logan, Utah; two sisters, Ellen Shore, Topeka, and Deloras Gurney and husband Edwin, Pocatello, Idaho; nine grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Gary; her parents; one brother and one sister.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. The casket will remain closed.
