Grace Lillian Shoemaker 1924 - 2011 Wellsville
Funeral services for Grace Lillian Shoemaker, 87, Wellsville, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Gardner Friends Church in Gardner. Burial will follow at Wellsville Cemetery.
She died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at Golden Heights Living Center in Garnett.
She was born June 6, 1924, in Franklin County, the daughter of Gilbert and Mildred Howell Stone.
She attended Lone Star, Corinth and Belvue rural schools in Johnson County.
She worked for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City for eight years and Reuter Organ Company in Lawrence. She also cared for elderly people in their home. Later Grace worked as a nurse’s aide for Cedar House Nursing Home in Ottawa.
She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church of Franklin County and loved teaching Sunday School at the church.
She married Marvin Shoemaker in September 1977 at Gardner Friends Church, Gardner, and they made their home on Marvin’s family farm outside Wellsville. He preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Stone, and Helen Terrell; and a brother, Robert Stone.
She is survived by three brothers, William Stone, of Spring Hill, Gilbert Stone, of Lawrence, and Herbert Stone and wife Ruth, of Eudora; 12 nephews; four nieces; and many grandnieces and grandnephews, and great-grandnieces and grandnephews.
Friends may call from in state from 1 p.m. Thursday to the service hour at the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home. The family will meet with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
