Omer William “Bill” Lafferty

Funeral services for Omer William “Bill” Lafferty, 98, De Soto, will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at De Soto Baptist Church. Burial will be at De Soto Cemetery.
Mr. Lafferty died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at Hillside Village in De Soto.
He was born May 16, 1913, in Coffey County, the son of William Ira and Mary Belle Bowlin Lafferty.
Mr. Lafferty grew up in Key West, Kan. He moved to De Soto in 1940.
Mr. Lafferty worked in maintenance for Hercules and retired in 1978.
He was a member of the Labor Local No. 1290 in Kansas City, Kan. Mr. Lafferty was a member of the De Soto Baptist Church. He enjoyed dancing, camping and wintering in Texas.
He married Vaneta Addean Shultz on Oct. 1, 1937, in Emporia. She preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Kenneth Leon and James William; two brothers, Marion Newton and James Elbert; and two sisters, Orean Fern Doherty and Beulah Frances Yockey.
Survivors include a son, Larry Gene, and wife Nancy, Valley Center; a daughter-in-law, Mary Owens Lafferty, Lawrence; six grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at 10:30 a.m. before the service at the church.
The family suggests memorials to De Soto Baptist Church, Care Alternative Hospice or De Soto Senior Center.
