George E. Tennyson 1926 - 2011 formerly of Lawrence
Funeral services for George E. Tennyson, 84, formerly of Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Military graveside services will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
He died Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, at Aldersgate Village in Topeka.
He was born Dec. 20, 1926, in Lawrence, the son of James and Lucille Herren Tennyson.
He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran, serving in the Pacific Theatre.
Mr. Tennyson was employed for 15 years in maintenance at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Before that, he was an over-the-road truck driver for more than 30 years.
He was a member of the Clinton Parkway Assembly of God Church and the Alford-Clarke Post No. 852 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He married Caroline O. Gunn on July 14, 1948, in Kansas City, Mo. She preceded him in death Feb. 26, 2002.
Survivors include two daughters, Gayle E. Tennyson, Lawrence, and Lea A. Lyons and husband John, Topeka; a son, Michael L. Sr. and wife Charlotte, Lawrence; a sister, Margaret Votaw, Eudora; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to Grace Hospice or to Aldersgate Village, sent in care of the mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
